Do you ever look at Pinterest? There are so many pins and boards that people post of hand-made jewelry, bags, and even fashion. The possibilities are endless! Not only can you find inspiration on Pinterest, but you can advertise your hand-made goods as well. Crafts like hand-made jewelry are ideal for nap time or any other free time. You can sell your pieces on Etsy and Amazon Handmade, as well as Shopify and other similar sites.
Here are some ideas of crafts that you can sell.
- Sewing
Apparel – When you hear the words “handmade or homemade”, it doesn’t mean it will be hand stitched, looking like a child made it (I know I’m not the only one who pictures that). Handmade simply means it didn’t come from a factory. There are so many people who make a brand from things they’ve once sewn by hand. My favorite DIY influencer, Mimi G., has taken off with her Mimi G Style brand and has a line of Simplicity sewing patterns and video tutorials to boot. Not to mention her AFFORDABLE self-paced learning courses Sew It! Academy with a monthly subscription of only $11.97. I recommend it if you want to learn how to sew. With so many ways to sell items in store and online, why not sell yours?
Home goods – Not so experienced with sewing? If you can at least sew straight lines and seams then this may work for you. One way to decorate a home is with throw pillows, comforters, pillow cases, and curtains. If you have ideas for your own prints, you can even purchase custom printed fabric through Spoonflower .
Accessories - Easy items to make are things like headbands, belts, and bags. Headbands can be inexpensive to make as they do not require much fabric. Belts can be a bit more complicated but all the supplies you needs are usually available at your local fabric stores or even online. Now, bags can range from easy to complex depending on the type of bag, but there is inspiration EVERYWHERE. I personally love to make clutch bags, they are easy to make and a necessity for your wardrobe (more to come with my bags).
Shoes – Yes, I said it. Some people can hand make shoes! I am utterly fascinated with the process of hand making a pair of sandals or Wedge heels. The supplies are somewhat easy to find if you know where to start. The possibilities are endless! Though there are some expensive learning courses for shoe-making, I feel it would benefit you greatly. There is a site that I find helpful for creating shoes, called ICANMakeShoes. They offer online courses and free informational videos as well.
- Digital Prints
Any types of printable items are an easy sell. You can design art for people to purchase and print at their leisure. Note: I highly recommend using Adobe Illustrator for graphics! They come out very professionally, ALSO save as PNG files for better image quality.
Sewing patterns - If you are able to create sewing patterns in a digital format you have a gold mine.
Children’s learning activities – Since there are so many ways to create art on a computer, or even draw pictures and scan them in to perfect them, you can create coloring books, practice sheets for handwriting, phonics, etc. Parents love a good learning aid for their babies.
Home Decor – There are plenty of people who look for printable wall decals or graphic quotes to be framed. Who wouldn’t want to decorate a room with easy to use art?
- Jewelry
Who goes into craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby and suddenly believes they can create anything because everything looks so appealing in the store? I am that person. A soon as I come through the doors I want to paint murals, make candles, jewelry, and knit a blanket (seriously)!
Anyhoo… Jewelry can be as easy or complex as you make it. There are so many places from which you can get supplies both online and in store. Jewelry is universal and there is ALWAYS someone who will like your items. Necklaces, Chokers, Rings, Bracelets, you name it! People buy them.
- Candles
Candles are something that I have on my own list to try. It seems pretty easy to make from what I have seen, just require small investment on supplies or ingredients. Aromatherapy is vital in any household. I love candles. Especially when the packaging and jars are pretty. Candles are also something that can be sold easily when using Eco-friendly ingredients. Go for it!
- Paintings
People still buy authentic paintings. Grab that canvas and get the paint out. This also gets you exposure to showcase your work in galleries and art fairs. Get it out there!
There are more than enough ways to make money with crafts. You just need to have a bit of patience. You may not go from 0 - $10,000 in a week, but you can definitely get there. Get that sewing machine and those beads out. It’s time to get creative and make some money.
Be Blessed.
